SUBCONSCIOUS

"The Lord knows the thoughts of man, that they are a mere breath." -Psalm 94:11

As scientists say, our subconscious controls a multitude of our bodily functions, such as breathing, blinking, our circulatory system, digestion, etc. Likewise, our subconscious handles our more minor beliefs, such as our belief that a chair will hold us upright, or when we wake up we will be in the same location as when we fell asleep. When these beliefs become shaken, say by a rickety chair or by sedatives, we feel rattled and nervous.

It is also our subconscious that media and the outside world will try and influence (and in most cases are successful). Advertisements, books, television, our family and friends, and even strangers tell us subtly about body image, relationships, life meaning, and we subconsciously absorb and hold these beliefs. Some examples for our culture include ideas such as skinny being beautiful, education equals success, and to be happy means being married and having children, a large house, many items, and a successful career. Even though all beliefs are hard to break, those in our subconscious can be slightly harder to pinpoint.
